JSV1.08 lite

- tested with WINDOWS JDK1.2 & LINUX JDK1.2 -

Notes on LINUX:

• you can remove the *.PIF files
• direct printing is not supported by the JDK for Linux. You have to use the PostScript files or create GIF/JPG images which you can then print from the "xv" program.
• Java3D is available at www.blackdown.org. Note that you might also need the MesaGL and libggi libraries for your Linux system
• rotations are slower than on WINDOWS.
• In my tests sometimes some windows were not displayed at the specified size. ( noticable when starting the moduls ) If you should have the same problem you will have to manually adjust the window size.

REQUIREMENTS:

• You need JDK1.2 installed on your machine in order to run JSV. Your "JDK1.2\bin\" directory has to be in your PATH in order for java.exe to be found.
• Optionally you may install the Java3D libraries from www.javasoft.com, in order to be able to use the "Java3D window" !!! You also need to move the file vrml\vrml97.jar to the directory jdk1.2\jre\lib\ext\
• DO NOT extract the file jsv.jar ! This contains all the individual
  class files.

RUN JSV:
Under Windows you may just execute "jsv.bat" to start the program. Otherwise just type the command "java -cp jsv.jar JSV" when in the JSV1.07 directory.

I included the following batch files for running JSV or JSV's modules as separate programs without JSV.

• jsv.bat - run JSV
• pt.bat - run Periodic Table of Elements
• jwulff.bat - run Stereographic Projections
• unitcell.bat - run Unit Cell Visualizer
• xrdl.bat - run Reciprocal Space Viewer
• cmb.bat - run viewer for MICRO-POWD's *.cmb files
• igor.bat - run viewer for RIETANS's IGOR files
• inters.bat - run interstitial space viewer *.jfm
• vrml.bat - run VRML97 viewer *.wrl

non-Windows users can use the following commands:

• for JSV: java -Xms12m -Xmx64m -cp jsv.jar JSV
• for Stereographic Projections: java -cp jsv.jar JSTEREOGRAM
• for Reciprocal Space Viewer: java -cp jsv.jar XRDL
• for Unit Cell Visualizer: java -cp jsv.jar JSVCELL
• for Periodic Table: java -cp jsv.jar jpt
• for CMB viewer: java -cp jsv.jar CMB 1
• for IGOR viewer: java -cp jsv.jar CMB 2
• for interstitial viewer: java -cp jsv.jar JVIEW
• for VRML97 viewer: java Vrml97Viewer

Note:
instead of the "java" command you may also use "jre" (java runtime environment)

Note on printing:
Spooling to the printer is very slow. You may just save the image as GIF and then use any other graphics software to print it out. If you want to view/print PostScript files you should install the free software GhostScript & GhostView on your computer. Then you can print to ANY PRINTER and you don't need an expensive PostScript printer.

Note on *.XRD files for XRDL:
You can easily write your own *.xrd files without using JSV. Just maintain the same format. Unit cell angles may be given in [deg] or [rad]! The last reflection in the data block has to be " 0 0 0 " !!!.

Note on help files:
The help menu opens the default browser on WINDOWS. On LINUX NETSCAPE has to be running already for it to be called. You can read the help files also by directly opening the file "doc/index0.html" !!

included example
The included example files of different types only serve to show the file formats which are possible to read or import.

When you view the SDF-file Icosahedra.SDF you may also select [option][show all cut atoms], in order to see how the image was created by cutting out all unwanted atoms.
