The Department of Theoretical Physics and Astrophysics invites you to the department seminary. The speaker of the seminar will be the director of Astronomical Institute of Czech Academy of Science:

Michal Bursa: Big Data Astronomy

Advanced computing techniques, deep learning methods and artificial intelligence, which have been developing rapidly in recent years, are affecting a wide range of fields, not excluding astronomy. Astronomers are using these tools to process and analyse increasingly large datasets from earth-bound telescopes and space missions, and with projects such as VRO/LSST, SKA and Euclid, data astronomy is becoming an important enabler for the discovery of exciting new objects and a deeper understanding of the patterns of nature. The sheer volume of data being acquired is so breathtaking that the term " astronomically big data" takes on a whole new dimension.
