Department of Theoretical Physics and Astrophysics invites you to the department seminary.

Jakub Juryšek – SST-1M mini array: Gamma-ray observatory in Ondrejov

The Single-Mirror Small Size Cherenkov Telescope (SST-1M) is a 4-m class Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescope prototype developed by a consortium of institutes in Switzerland, Poland, and the Czech Republic. It is equipped with an innovative SiPM camera. Since 2021, two SST-1M prototypes have been commissioned at the Ondřejov Observatory in the Czech Republic, where their performance in both mono and stereo observation modes is being tested. During the commissioning phase, several galactic and extragalactic gamma-ray sources have been observed, resulting in multiple detections. In this contribution, I present basic principles of ground-based gamma-ray astronomy, as well as preliminary results from our observation campaign, focusing on the validation of the SST-1M performance.
