Eduard Fuchs – Do we understand the infinity?
Mathematicians and natural scientists have been grappling with the problem of infinity since ancient times. The issues associated with the infinite divisibility of space and time led ancient science to the "fear of infinity," which persisted in science until the 19th century. For example, the extraordinary properties of infinity forced even Galileo Galilei to draw incorrect conclusions. Modern mathematics has come to grips with this issue. Still, the imperfect interpretation of these results leads to faulty reasoning, for example, in modern cosmology.
The speaker is Assoc. Prof. Eduard Fuchs from the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, Faculty of Science, Masaryk University in Brno.
The lecture will be streaming online through MS Teams from lecture room F2, where you can attend personally and enjoy a cup of coffee. Click the blue button below for more information and a link to the online stream.
