František Kundracik – Secrets of whistles and fujara
Whistles are a typical part of not only European folklore. Among them, the fujara has a unique position as the longest pipe of its kind. It originates in Slovakia in the Podpoľany region. Many artists appreciate its exceptional sound, which can be heard in several films by significant world directors. In this lecture, we will discuss the physical nature of the formation of tones in whistles and fujara. We will also deal with other issues, such as the choice of the length of the fujara and why it has three holes. The lecture will include several demonstrations of playing folk aerophone instruments.
The speaker is Assoc. Prof. František Kundracik from the Department of Experimental Physics, Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics, Comenius University in Bratislava.
The lecture will be streaming online through MS Teams from lecture room F2, where you can attend personally and enjoy a cup of coffee. Click the blue button below for more information and a link to the online stream.
