162. Physics Café has a richer program than usual

1) Pavel Konečný: How Physics Textbooks Grow Old, or Contemplation on Physics for Junior High Schools, edition for Secondary schools, 1905
The book we will present is a physics textbook for junior high schools, the 8th edition, dated 1905. Its author is the high school teacher, educator, historian, and archaeologist Emanuel Leminger, c. k. school executive (1846-1931). His Physics has been published many times in various modifications and used extensively. It is thus a representative testimony of physics teaching in the lands of the Austro-Hungarian Crown in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It is interesting to see, for example, how it dealt with magnetism or atoms when, at the time of the textbook's composition, the existence of atoms was still not generally accepted by the scientific community.

2) Guest from Vesmír
Vesmír magazine intends to devote some of its content to promoting science education - at all grade levels. They themselves are still looking for a suitable and effective concept that would be beneficial and interesting for teachers, and they want to consult with the most qualified people - you. A magazine representative, Jeronym Boháček, will be at the February Café and would like to discuss the possibilities the Vesmír offers and your ideas on how Vesmír could help educate your pupils and students. The Vesmír magazine encompasses all the sciences, but it goes to physics first!

3) Opportunity to receive an official certificate from the MU Faculty of Science for completing the Physics Café as part of continuing education for teaching staff
From February 2024, it will be possible to receive an official certificate for participation in Physics Cafés. To obtain them, you need to "buy" an educational course here: The price is 0Kč. The structure of the purchase is similar to buying goods on an e-shop. You only need to purchase once a year (now it will be valid for Cafes February - June, and from next year, September - June). There is no obligation to sign up. We will evaluate how often you have been to the Café, and you will receive a certificate for how much you have participated (one Café = 2 hours). Take this opportunity to have official proof of your voluntary qualification improvement!
Please note that this course is not accredited by the Ministry of Education simply because the Ministry of Education has discontinued accreditation of similar courses. Accreditation is now only possible and necessary for so-called qualification courses, where you can obtain, for example, the qualification of an accompanying teacher. Thus, the lack of accreditation of non-qualifying continuing education courses is no handicap.

The lecture will be streaming online through MS Teams from lecture room F2, where you can attend personally and enjoy a cup of coffee. Click the blue button below for more information and a link to the online stream.
