Brno Ph.D. Talent Project announced its new winners. From physics at Masaryk University, Areej Fatima was successful in Plasma Physics and Marianna Dafčíková in Astrophysics. Areej works under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Tomáš Homola at the Plasma Nanotechnologies and Bioapplications research group. In her project, she will focus on developing a g-C3N4-based fabric for photocatalysis in wastewater treatment.
Brno Ph.D. Talent Project announced its new winners. From physics at Masaryk University, Areej Fatima was successful in Plasma Physics. All new talents will receive a stipend of 120,000 CZK annually for 3 years.
Areej works under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Tomáš Homola at the Plasma Nanotechnologies and Bioapplications research group at the Department of Plasma Physics and Technology. In her project, she will focus on developing a g-C3N4-based fabric that mimics a spider web structure for visible light photocatalysis in wastewater treatment.
The design addresses the critical challenge of micropollutant degradation by stabilizing g-C3N4 within fabric structures, ensuring long-term durability and high photocatalytic efficiency. Plasma technology is pivotal in this innovation, modifying the nanofiber surface while simultaneously improving the fabric's photocatalytic and sorption properties. These plasma-induced enhancements enable the fabrics to interact more effectively with a wide range of micropollutants, promoting their degradation and removal under real wastewater conditions. By optimizing nanofiber composition and functionality, this approach offers a sustainable, high-performance solution for advanced water treatment applications.
