Looking back at Researcher's Night 2023

Mystery was the theme of this year's Night of Scientists, held on 6 October. Around 1,500 visitors came to the premises. Animators from the Institute of Plasma Physics and Technology and the Institute of Theoretical Physics and Astrophysics offered an exciting program about physics for all ages.

Animators from the staff and students prepared an exciting program that revealed the secrets of science and physics. In an entertaining and popularizing way, they addressed visitors, both young and old. The event included puzzles, jigsaws, quizzes, and pairs games for the little ones. This year's Night of Scientists attendance was record-breaking at the Faculty of Science and Masaryk University. We did not count how many visitors came to physics programs, but the individual programs were always crowded. The event was a great success. Both the animators and the visitors enjoyed it.

The detailed program offered by the physics departments can be found here.

The Didactics of Physics, a section of DPPT, illustrated electromagnetic waves' mystery. The Deposition of Thin Films and Nanostructures research group of DPPT revealed the secrets of thin films and their preparation. Dr. Jana Jurmanova, also from DPPT, showed the secrets of microstructures using the Mira3 scanning electron microscope. The Plasma Nanotechnology and Bioapplication research group of DPPT presented the mysterious effects of plasma and electric discharges. Visitors to the Department of Theoretical Physics and Astrophysics program discovered that there's always something happening in astrophysics and space exploration. The animators prepared a rich audiovisual program. Among the kids, making their own space drink was a hit.
