Dear colleagues, dear students,

There will be Dean’s time off on May 19, 2022 for all students in connection with the celebration of the Dies academicus 2022 ceremony and Campus day activities.

Classes will not be held during this day. Employees participating in these events will be excused from their job duties.

Leona Zuzáková Receives Student Award from Academia Publishing

Leona Zuzáková has won a special student award from Academia Publishing in the category “Life and Chemical Sciences” for her master thesis titled Photo Gallery of Selected Plant Surface Structures. The award ceremony took place on September 18, 2025, at the Czech Academy of Sciences in Prague. Her thesis, featuring stunning SEM imagery captured at the Department of Plasma Physics and Technology and CEPLANT, will be published as a book next year. The visuals were also part of the exhibition “Secrets of Plant Surfaces” at the Botanical Garden of the Faculty of Science, MUNI.

Bridging Plasma Science: Dr. Muddasir Ali Shah’s Collaborative Visit Enriches Our Research Community

From August to October, we had the pleasure of hosting Dr. Muddasir Ali Shah, a distinguished plasma physicist from Pakistan. His research stay was not only a testament to the power of international collaboration but also a unique opportunity to deepen our shared understanding of plasma science. The visit fostered new friendships, hopefully inspired possible joint projects, and showcased the welcoming spirit that defines our research environment.

Sahand Behrangi at 2025 FALL EMRS

Dr. Sahand Behrangi, researcher at PVDLab in the Deposition of Thin Films and Nanostructures group, attended the 2025 Fall Meeting of the European Materials Research Society (E-MRS) in Warsaw, Poland. He presented his research on the influence of bias voltage on the microstructure and mechanical properties of industrially deposited TiZrN coatings, a topic he explored during his PhD studies under the supervision of Prof. Petr Vašina.

New GAČR Project Focused on Plasma Treatment of Reinforcing Fibers and Enhancement of FRP Composite Properties

Researchers from the Plasma Nanotechnologies and Bioapplications group have launched a new project funded by the Czech Science Foundation (GAČR), aimed at improving the mechanical properties of fiber-reinforced composites through plasma surface treatment of fibers. The project will run until 2028 in collaboration with the Research Institute of Building Materials, a.s.
